Hello Mental Health Warriors!
I am super excited to be a part of helping The Love Tea Company create a Mission for Mental Wellness in America. Mental illness affects over 40 million people in the US today. Nearly half of that, over 20 million people, have a condition that adversely affects quality of life. That's nearly 1 in 4! Which means everyone in the U.S. likely has a loved one, or someone very close to them, that is affected by it.
We all have a story. Nobody exactly knows what happens behind closed doors and for that matter, within our own minds. As for myself, mental illness runs within my very own family, from depression to addiction, I have seen it all first hand. My father is bi-polar, an uncle suffers the same. My aunt is a suicide survivor and a recovering addict. I, myself, have been diagnosed with severe anxiety.
I knew from a very young age that to be whole, I needed to live in a compassionate world, one where humans are supportive and kind to one another. Acting on those values to support and help others was something I knew I wanted to share with the world. Having seen suicide first hand, preventing the loss of a life became a passion and something I wanted to do to help others.
In high school I was given that chance to help others. I became a member of S.A.D.D. (Students against dangerous decisions) in my school and eventually the president of the club. During my time as president, I arranged for students to ride in a DUI simulator to show the harmful affects of drinking and driving. I formed a community "walk to prevent suicide" with the help of local businesses and we raised nearly $40,000 to prevent suicide. My whole school along with the administration team and local officials helped participate in this worthy cause to save and change lives for the better! Almost 5 years later, I am now pursuing higher education but still find time to help prevent and support mental illness in America.
This is why when I found The Love Tea company, I immediately knew I had to be a part of it. I absolutely fell in love with their movement, "Making mental wellness a mission in America, one cup of tea at a time." The Love Tea Company has pledged to donate 25% of it's net profit to the Flagg Foundation for Mental Wellness, a private family foundation named after the founder's grandmother. Using tea as a vehicle to encourage people to #choosetoconnect they hope to harness consumer purchasing power to help raise awareness and money toward improving mental healthcare in America. Think about it this way, they want to do for tea what TOMS did for shoes! 16 million people buy loose leaf tea in America, an $11 billion dollar market. 25% of that will go a long way toward helping to advocate, activate and provide access to millions of Americans. In today's political climate it is more important than ever that we all make strong consumer purchase choices. If you buy loose leaf tea, even a single purchase from Love Tea will go far. The best part though, their super delicious tea combinations and the power of LOVE can change the world!
What I love most about The Love Tea Company is that they embrace love for all and they are working toward a world where nobody is left behind or alone!
